Book Review: The Empress of Konin by M.D Loveheart

The Empress of Konin by M.D. Loveheart

"She was a woman desired by all, but only one could have her."

A hush falls over the kingdom of Konin when Emperor Abasi falls ill after returning from a war that's lasted over a decade. Konin has been left without a leader when Abasi's illness spirals into a sudden death. Isis, the Empress of Konin by blood, is the only leader that the country has let, and she's presented with a new challenge when her rule is opposed by powerful men. She's left to pick up the pieces that have fallen in place after Abasi's death while convincing her kingdom that she's fit to rule, and the only reprieve that she'll get from this madness is the company of a handsome servant with eyes that she could drown in. The addition of a manly distraction makes for a new, hectic world that's dangerous for more than one reason.

"My life would be much simpler if I could truly rule. Any man that wielded the power that she did wouldn't tolerate an advisor like Aharon, or any of the other men that deemed themselves far more qualified than she to rule Konin. Their heads would have been cut off, their whispered, snarky comments would have been deemed treasonous, and all the citizens on Konin would look the other way."
I liked this book. It was a cute, quick read but it struck home a bit. Many women deal with the situation that Isis was in. She was not as good as a man for the simple fact that she was a woman. Nothing more. Now, I'm not going to go on some feminist rant but I am going to say that this still happens!

This book had a nice little bit of steamy romance without going overboard especially for the length of book.

Isis was the perfect personality for a main character. She was a strong-willed, sassy, independent woman definitely someone I could see being friends with. The part that was really moving in this book however, was the amount of loyalty and kindness that she instilled in her subjects. She truly cared about what was best for them and for the kingdom. I look forward to reading the other books in this world and I hope to see Isis again.

M.D Loveheart is not one author, but two. A husband and wife from Montana, Mary and Don first began writing together in late 2017 when working on the Konin Romances, a series of books set in the fictional kingdom of Konin. Since then, they have not stopped writing. Their love for romance literature and ancient cultures drives each and every word.

Though one member of the writing duo will have sometimes a stronger voice on a particular project, both actively participate in the writing and editing of each and every novel or story that shares their name.

When Mary and Don are not writing, they enjoy spending time outdoors and visiting their grandchildren.

May you always find adventure.
