Book Review: Testament of Feats by K. H. Jones

Testament of Feats by K. H. Jones.

A vigilante, cursed to be unseen and forgotten, Night Scream collects blood debts as Jaws for the Dogs Clan. When fellow ranger Warhold disappears, Scream roams into unfamiliar territory to seek answers. He finds the lost survivors of the destroyed Ravens Clan as well as the death-cult Bones Clan practicing horrific rites. Neither explains Warhold's absence or the dark forces assaulting Scream at every turn.
"There was a time on the earth
When the ancient and the new strived against each other,
When the seen and the unseen world
were not strange to each other,
When good and evil were not so clearly divided,
And when a Stained Hero walked the land."

"Out of mayhem, the warrior brought order; out of chaos, the warrior brought beauty.
This was war, and she loved it.
Their eyes met for an instant, her tear plain. His grin invited her to come play, and so she did.
Back to back, they fought in perfect unity. A beautiful fury, they danced a rhythm of death and destruction. Rage and fear forgotten, they felt only purpose."
This book reminded me a tribal/clan-style Lord of the Rings but with a main character that semi-chose this life. With giants, creepers, uglies, and gods, this book is a fun journey-style read. As your reading, you are experiencing all these travels with Scream. It was not a fully engrossing book, however, it was a nice book to read and was easy enough to pick up where you left off.

Night Scream (Scream for short) started off reminding me of a cowboy from the old westerns - just moseying on through the lands alone except for his horse, Son, who is his partner-in-justice. As the story progresses, you come to realize that he had a good upbringing but also feels right and wrong much stronger than most. You begin to feel for his lonesome existence. Then throw in the fact that no one who meets him remembers him except for a select few and you feel for the man.

At the same time, Scream is a warrior - lethal and fast. There is a reason he is sent to collect blood debts. The man is wicked quick and knows his stuff. I felt even I was learning proper knife techniques in this book. When anyone came to mess with Scream, they soon learned what the face of  justice really looks like.

Mina, a lady Scream meets along his travels, is my favorite character. Her sharp wit and quick tongue had me grinning from ear to ear. Not to mention, she is tough as nails. She knows her stuff and I hope to see her in the next book.

One important thing, the ending! That was a great ending! The action, the romance and the heart wrenching! Man! I was in tears and yet grinning. It was beautiful!

The action scenes and the ending both were enough to make me want to keep reading this series!

3.5 out of 5

As a paramedic and firefighter, Kimm H. Jones saw death and violence up close. It was time for the firehouse Superman to move to the glory of the mountains and heal. He found himself working again as a bush medic, training in alpine rescue and survival in the vast Wyoming wilderness. After losing his father while trout fishing on the Madison river, he left emergency medicine for good. A father and grandfather, he now finds peace managing his small farm with his wife in South Georgia. After surviving pancreatic cancer, a particularly rare second chance, he knew he wanted to tell a story, to hold in his own hands a book he had written.

This book.
