Book Review: Choosing Me: Love Letters from a Poet by Bill Weber

Choosing Me: Love Letters from a Poet

Sex... Bombarded with imagery in advertising, on TV, in the movies, sex has become commonplace and ordinary. Even in our romantic relationships, we have too often let the flames of passion die to a flicker.

Yet sex is naturally healthy, good for loving relationships, and even spiritually enriching. Rendered in exquisite language, the poems in this volume open new windows into the sensual magic and mystery of sexual pleasure. They allow us to rediscover the sacredness of both the body and the act of lovemaking.

Inspired to write these poems by a desire to express the depths of meaning and the physical expression of making love, poet Bill Weber paints vivid pictures in words that far transcend old clichés and masterfully express the transcendent dimensions of sexual pleasures.

Women And Trees

They come in all shapes and sizes
With various colors, textures and patterns
Each one a unique masterpiece of God's artistry

Breathtaking beauty in full bloom
Turns a man's head and stops him in his tracks
Grabs a man's attention and takes away his words

Steadiness grounded deep within the earth
The comfort of shade and shelter from rain
Colorful songbirds singing sweetly

Gentle whisper of soft breezes through the leaves
A solid trusted place to lean
An oasis of comfort and retreat

Multiple layers of pleasure awaits
The fortunate man taken into her arms
The delicate touch of such feminine leaves

The personalness of her sweet caress
Her knowingness of what you need
Her willingness to please

If I Had The Chance

If I had the chance
To gaze into the depth of you eyes
To touch the softness of your hair
To say the words you long to hear

If I had the chance
To hold your face in the palm of my hand
To open the radiance of your truest beauty
To be everything you long to have

If I had the chance
To kiss your lips with the warmth you deserve
To caress your skin like the precious treasure that you are
To fill every need before you ask

To start this review, I feel I should say that I'm not a big poetry reader. If I do read poetry, I enjoy the style that makes you imagine exactly how the author feels or what the author is seeing.

For this book, I was not expecting the poetry that I read.

While the name describes love poetry, the book read more as sex poetry. There were some that seemed like the author loved and adored his subject however, the majority described sex with her. I was disappointed by this because I don't believe that sex and love are the same thing. While sex is important in a relationship and helps connect two people, love is so much deeper.

Throughout reading these poems, the use of the word feminine and femininity was vastly overused. I understand that the subject is female but there are other glorious and descriptive words that could be used to enhance the readers experience of the poetry, such as womanly, ladylike, belladonna, coquette, doyenne, or mavourneen. All of these words describe women and who they are not simply their bodies.

One of the poems, I completely disliked. It told the subject that "being with you is like being with every woman I have ever been with". No woman wants to hear that. Women like being unique. We want to be the only woman that you want not the one that brings what you wanted in all the others together.

The majority of the poems had beautiful writing. It did make you picture many of the poems and how the author felt about his subject. I've never been so keen to be likened to a tree before. I loved the comparison between how women are in a family or with their spouse to how a tree is. The comforting and protective nature of women are similar to what trees do for creatures and I had never thought of that before.

Bill is a devilishly handsome hopeless romantic living a charmed life. Bill and his radiantly beautiful princess goddess soul mate, Cynthia Becker, live in an enchanted castle on top of a hill on the outskirts of the legendary city of Vandalia, Illinois. Bill’s life is like a magical fairy tale where dreams come true every night, and oftentimes during the day as well.

* This book was received from Bill Weber for an honest review.

May you always find adventure.
